LHC to Restart in 2009

On December 5th 2008, it was determined that the LHC will be ready to restart in summer 2009. Great news!

 

CERN Releases Analysis of LHC Incident

Analysis of the incident at the LHC was released on October 16, 2008. The incident that occurred over a month ago just ten days after the beam started up was said to have been caused by a faulty electrical connection between two magnets in sector 3-4.

 

Let the Number-Crunching Begin: The Worldwide LHC Computing Grid Celebrates First Data

On October 3, 2008, "the analysis and management of more than 15 million Gigabytes of data [per] year" begins at the LHC via the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid.

 

LHC Re-start Scheduled for 2009

On September 19, 2008 there was an incident in the sector 3-4 of the LHC, resulting in a helium leak. The LHC is shutting down for a minimum of 2 months to fix the problem. The accelerator is scheduled for re-start in early spring 2009.

 

First Beam in the LHC - Accelerating Science

On September 10, 2008 a historic event took place. The LHC started accelerating its first proton beams at 10:30 AM (Geneva time).
